Siberian Care Guide
The Siberian is a strong, affectionate, and playful forest cat known for its thick, triple-layered coat and friendly, dog-like personality. Native to Russia, where it developed naturally to survive harsh winters, the Siberian is often called the country’s national cat. These cats combine impressive athleticism with a warm, people-oriented nature, making them loving companions who enjoy being involved in family life.
Temperament
- Affectionate and loyal
- Playful and agile
- Intelligent and curious
- Social and friendly
- Gentle with family
Exercise & Play
Siberians enjoy 30–45 minutes of daily play, including interactive wand toys, fetch, and climbing activities. They are strong jumpers and love high perches and cat trees. Because they are intelligent and curious, puzzle feeders and rotating toys help keep them mentally engaged. Many Siberians stay playful well into adulthood.
Grooming & Care
Their dense, water-resistant triple coat requires brushing two to three times per week, with more frequent brushing during seasonal shedding. Regular grooming helps prevent tangles around the neck and hindquarters. Routine care includes nail trims, dental hygiene, and ear checks.
Health & Wellness
Siberians are generally robust but may be prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dental disease, and obesity. Regular veterinary exams help monitor heart and dental health. While some people with cat allergies report fewer symptoms around Siberians, no cat is truly hypoallergenic—spend time with the breed before committing.
